Threads (platform)

Threads is Meta’s text-first social platform, launched in 2023 as a Twitter/X alternative, integrated with Instagram identity, and increasingly important for B2B and creator brands.

Threads runs on the same identity layer as Instagram — your Instagram handle and follower graph carry over. The product is text-first (with media support) and culturally closer to early Twitter than to Instagram. Engagement rewards conversational, opinion-led posts and multi-post threads more than polished marketing copy.

For brands, Threads sits as a complement to Instagram rather than a replacement. The same audience may follow on both platforms but expect different content: visual + caption on Instagram, conversational + textual on Threads. Cross-posting identical content typically underperforms on at least one of the two.

Why it matters

Threads is the easiest new audience-building surface for brands already on Instagram, but it requires its own register, not a duplicate of the Instagram feed.
